“Everything You Should to Know About Clays, Clay Bodies, & Engobes. (Underglazes)”

This workshop presents information on some of the most important information on clays, clay bodies & engobes or underglazes. 

Description: This workshop is presented as a way for you to begin to better understand the material you work with: origins of clay, their specific characteristics & uses, kinds & types of clay bodies, engobes & underglazes, & pyrometric cones- how they work.

The “A” Critique Corner & the “B” Mini-workshop in “Clays, Clay Bodies &Engobes” is designed for the novice, beginner or intermediate or advanced level student who is interested in building a better understanding of the material you work with.   PRICE:

Workshop: “Second Generation Tarpaper Construction” -Bonita Springs,Florida


About: A two & a half day workshop

DATE: March 29-31, 2018

Thursday:  1/2 Day • 1:00–4:30 

  • Preface: Power point presentation on Dynamic Symmetry & Aesthetics. 
  • Demonstration: I will cut out tarpaper templates & begin to demonstrate how to use the tarpaper to make forms i.e. cylinders, ovals, rectangular prisms, cones & other shapes. A number of decorative techniques will be used in the process.  Inlaying colored clay, texturing with a variety of materials, sand painting with colored sand, & stamping & incising. I will have some pieces that had been made the day before & I will demonstrate a variety of finishing techniques.

Friday March 3: Day 1 — Construction • Morning & afternoon, 10:00-12:00 & 1:00-4:00 

  • All participants will make & use their own templates to construct a number of forms to be worked on the next day. There will be a full day of working, assembling, & creating. The overnight time will stiffen the clay & make it for better to begin assembling.

Saturday March 31: Day 2 • Morning & afternoon, 10:00-12:00 & 1:00-4:00

  • There will be a full day of working, assembling, & creating.

 

CRITIQUE CORNER: Marco Island


DATE: JANUARY 29, 2018    

Location: MARCO ISLAND CENTER FOR THE ARTS, Marco Island, Florida

This -hour mini-course will be conducted in a group critique format. Each person will receive individual, aesthetic and technical feedback on their work, and their working process, from their peers and master artist Regis Brodie. This class is an opportunity to have your work seen and discussed in a constructive and positive environment & by this, to improve technique, compositional issues & to open a better understanding of how to improve your work and to clarify your expression. (fee $40.00)            

1) Beginning/Intermediate critique: 12:00 – 2:30pm 

2) Advanced/Professional critique: 3:00 –5:30pm

B. Design & Proportions for the Potter, Sculptor, & or Painter.This workshop presents information on some of the most important mathematical ratios, proportions, elements & principles of design that have been used by artists, architects, & others, for thousands of years to create harmonious & beautiful objects.

Discription: This workshop is presented as a way for you to begin to better understand proportions, their aesthetic applications, design elements & principals & how to use this information to enlighten & to improve your work.Phi, (F) the Golden Ratio:Phi, a ratio of 1 to 1.618, & Golden Calipers

Mathematical associates & Dynamic Symmetry

Fibonacci Sequence: 0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, & so on forever. Root Rectangles: √ 1 = 1, √ 2 = 1.41421, √ 3 = 1.7320, √ 4 = 2, etc. Focal Points, Rule of thirds, Golden ratio, rabatment, & no focal point. Elements & principles of design. Issues of Form & Surface (i.e. Glaze & other Surface treatments).
